#thefutureisrural and Azola Devi shows how her polynursery in India's north-eastern state of Jharkhand has transformed her rural community. Before becoming a successful vegetable and fruit collective polynursery entrepreneur, Azola Devi was a smallholder tribal farmer from Sirsa village, Deoghar district, with a large family to look after. She joined the NEEDS Green College and then underwent the Fast Track Program supported by Germany's #Welthungerhilfe. Her business idea was to establish a polynursery to cater to 500 farmers. The polyhouse proved to be very helpful to the farmers as they could cultivate paddy along with vegetables due to timely availability of soilless saplings. Azola Devi and her group's members also sell seedlings like tomato, eggplant, chilli, cabbage, cauliflower, and fruit crops like papaya. She was trained and guided regularly by the Green College project team during her journey. Currently, the group also caters to the needs of nearby villages. With this initiative, she now earns an additional income of INR 25700/- per season and is able to take care of her family. With increasing income season by season, she is confident of setting an example of success in the region.
